MUSCAT: Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS) completed a series of events and activities organized especially for Ramadhan, according to a press release from the college.
To advance the dialogue on how to engage students in community service, Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS) brought scholars, practitioners and students for a roundtable discussion where participants discussed why it is important to be actively involved in the community, how it can be done through a collective initiative, and the opportunities and benefits of engaging in community service.
Dr Ana Stakic, Associate Dean for Research, Postgraduate and Professional Studies at Modern College, initiated and moderated the discussion. She emphasized that in creating visionary entrepreneurs and global business leaders of tomorrow, MCBS recognises the importance of preparing students to be responsible citizens who demonstrate leadership, teamwork and integrity within communities.
Stakic also stressed how social service helps students develop skills sets such as leadership, problem-solving, time management, and many others that will help them succeed in the college and beyond. Most importantly, students learned that the work they do can make a real impact in the world.
Students shared their experiences in different forms of community engagement such as collecting donations for charity, organising activities to help the environment, tutoring friends and many such. MCBS students Zayzafooun Al Maawali and Hamed Al Hajri represented their clubs, Environmental Club and Charity Club respectively, and spoke about the clubs’ inspirational community activities.
Ms Aleksandra Minic, a member of Community Engagement Committee and an adviser to the International club, talked about the work she has done with the club and how fulfilling this kind can be. They all spoke about how community service mattered for them, and their drive and motivation to dedicate their time and energy to this noble cause. Most of the students in the audience felt comfortable to share their experience, ideas and thoughts about what they did, what they plan to do and what volunteering work means for them personally.
After the workshop, Dr Anna Stalinska, Chair of the Marketing Committee of MCBS, followed by members of the Organising Committee of the event handed the certificates to the students who volunteered during Ramadan and announced the winners of ‘My Ramadhan’ social media competition.
MCBS will continue addressing prominent issues and topics for the students and society and contribute strongly to the excellence of higher education in the Sultanate, states the press release.
